A little late sharing this, but still grateful for the opportunity to be part of the NICU to Home Conference w/ @momandme_md

I had the chance to join an important conversation about what happens after NICU discharge — when families transition from highly structured hospital care back into everyday life while still navigating appointments, resources, emotional adjustment, advocacy, and sometimes an entirely new understanding of what parenting will look like.

This space matters deeply to me, both personally and through the work we are building with Legend’s Legacy. Families deserve more than a discharge packet and a list of appointments. They deserve connection, clear information, culturally responsive support, and people who understand that going home does not mean the NICU journey is over.

One of the things I’m especially grateful for is that the connection did not end when the conference did. Our WhatsApp group has continued to stay active, giving us a space to exchange ideas, ask questions, share resources, and keep learning from one another.
I’m thankful to have been connected with other women, clinicians, and advocates who are doing meaningful work in this space. It has been exciting to see those conversations continue beyond the conference and to explore new ideas, perspectives, and possibilities together.

Experiences like this remind me that some of the most valuable parts of professional spaces are the relationships that continue after the event is over. I’m grateful for the opportunity to keep learning, connecting, and strengthening the vision for how Legend’s Legacy can support families during the transition from NICU to home. 🤎

Happy Birthday to our co-founder, Wayne! 💛

Legend's Legacy may carry our son's name, but this work has always been rooted in our family's story — and that includes a NICU dad who experienced every bit of this journey alongside us.

Wayne has been there from the NICU days to bringing Legend home, navigating life after discharge, sitting beside me at our first NICU Health & Equity Summit, and now helping build an organization designed to support families walking a road we know personally.

He's also often the person behind the scenes asking the practical questions, helping me think through the big ideas, and reminding me when I've somehow turned one idea into seventeen. 😂

Today, we're just taking a moment to celebrate him.

We love you, and Legend's Legacy wouldn't be Legend's Legacy without you.

This Saturday, I get to talk about something that became personal long before it became professional. 💛

I’ll be speaking at the NICU to Home Conference on Finding Your Voice: Advocacy, Support, & Asking for What Your Family Needs.

As a social worker, I understand advocacy professionally. But becoming a NICU parent taught me what it feels like to need to advocate when you're exhausted, overwhelmed, scared, learning an entirely new language — and simply trying to take care of your baby.

That experience is also part of what led us to create Legend’s Legacy.

I’m looking forward to talking with NICU families about finding their voice, asking questions, building support, and remembering that they are an important part of their child’s care team — both inside the NICU and after discharge.

Some things really do come full circle. 💛

In 2022, we brought our NICU baby home after 145 days.

In 2023, we learned that “home” didn’t mean the journey was over. There was oxygen, appointments, specialists, therapies, and a whole new version of parenthood to figure out.

In 2024, Wayne and I attended the Saul’s Light NICU Health & Equity Summit as NICU parents — listening, learning, and connecting with people who understood this world in a way that felt familiar.

In 2025, I returned to that same Summit in a different seat: as a speaker, sharing our family’s experience and using my voice in a space where, just a year earlier, I had been sitting in the audience.

And now, in 2026, we’re returning again — this time with Legend’s Legacy.

What started as our family trying to survive the NICU, understand life after discharge, and advocate for our own child has grown into something much bigger than us.

Legend’s Legacy was created to help NICU families feel more informed, supported, and connected as they navigate the journey from the NICU to home and beyond — with a particular commitment to addressing the disparities experienced by Black and Brown families while remaining inclusive of every family who needs support.

One week from today, we’ll be back at the Saul’s Light NICU Health & Equity Summit continuing those conversations.

It’s a little surreal to look at the timeline and see how much has changed.

From NICU parents, to advocates, to building something of our own.

Full circle. And still growing. 💛

The ordinary moments.

Homework at four (which I still have questions about 😂). Learning new things. Big personalities. Bigger opinions. And getting to simply watch your child be a kid.

When you’ve experienced the NICU, sometimes the ordinary moments hit a little differently.

We’ll always honor where Legend’s story began. But we also get to celebrate where his story is going.
Not every part of the NICU story is about what happened inside those hospital walls.

Sometimes it just looks like childhood. 💛

And apparently…homework. At FOUR. 😩😂

There are so many things we learned during our NICU journey that no pamphlet could have prepared us for.
Some were medical. Some were emotional. And some we didn't understand until much later.

During NICU Awareness Month, we're talking about all of it. 💛
